Troubleshooting

Solutions to common issues.

Keyboard Shortcut Not Working

Accessibility Permission

The global shortcut requires accessibility permission:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
  2. Find NoteDrop and ensure it's enabled
  3. If already enabled, try toggling it off and on again

Conflicting Shortcuts

Another app may be using the same shortcut. Try customizing the shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts.

Finder Extension Not Showing

App Location

NoteDrop must be in your Applications folder. Move it there if it's elsewhere.

Extension Not Enabled

  1. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions
  2. Click Extensions
  3. Expand Finder and enable NoteDrop
  4. Restart Finder (Option-click Finder in Dock → Relaunch)

Alternative

Use Quick Actions instead: Right-click → Quick Actions → New File Note. No extension required.

Folder Not Detected as Project

Check your folder detection settings in Settings → Industry:

  • Numeric Prefix: Folder must start with numbers
  • Any Parseable: Folder must match your industry pattern
  • Manual: No auto-detection, uses selected folder directly

If your folder doesn't match the expected pattern, try "Manual" detection.

Notes Saving to Wrong Location

Check Settings → Industry → Save Location:

  • Verify the subfolder names match your folder structure
  • Try "Save to Root" if you don't use subfolders

Permission Denied

If you can't save to a folder:

  1. Go to Settings → General → Folder Access
  2. Click "Select Folder" and choose your projects folder
  3. This grants NoteDrop write access to that folder and its contents

Getting Help

If you're still having issues:

  • Use the "Send Feedback" option in the menu bar for bug reports
  • Include your macOS version and NoteDrop version
  • Describe the steps to reproduce the issue
