Creating Notes

Learn how to create file notes with NoteDrop.

Basic Steps

  1. Invoke NoteDrop

Use any of the entry points: menu bar, keyboard shortcut (N), or Finder context menu.

  2. Select note type

Choose from the dropdown: File Note, Telephone Attendance, Conference Note, etc.

  3. Add description (optional)

Enter a brief description that will appear in the filename.

  4. Write your note

Type your note in the text area. Use the toolbar above the field — or B / I — for bold, italic, and lists.

  5. Save

Press or click Save. The note is saved instantly in your chosen format.

Formatting

The note field has a small toolbar with Bold, Italic, and bullet list buttons. Formatting renders in the saved PDF:

  • Bold — toolbar button or B
  • Italic — toolbar button or I
  • Bullet lists — toolbar button, or type - at the start of a line
  • Numbered lists — type 1. at the start of a line

Pressing Return inside a list continues it on the next line; Return on an empty item ends the list. The "Aa" button shows everything available.

The Note Panel

  • Resizable — drag any edge or corner to make room for longer notes. The panel remembers your chosen size.
  • Dictation — the Dictate button starts macOS voice dictation into the note field.
  • Output format — a picker in the action bar switches between PDF, Markdown, or Both.
  • Date — optionally, a date and time picker for backdating notes. Enable it in Settings → Documents.

Telephone Attendance

When you select "Telephone Attendance" as the note type, an additional phone number field appears. This number is included in the PDF output.
