Industry Profiles

NoteDrop adapts to your profession with configurable industry profiles that change PDF labels and folder parsing patterns.

Overview

When you first launch NoteDrop, you'll be asked to select your industry. This configures:

  • PDF labels — The field names in your PDF header (e.g., "Matter No." vs "Patient ID")
  • Folder parsing — How NoteDrop extracts information from folder names
  • Subfolder names — Where notes are saved within project folders

You can change your industry profile anytime in Settings → Industry.

Simple

For users who want quick notes without structured metadata. Perfect for freelancers, creatives, or anyone who doesn't need folder parsing.

Tip: Simple mode is ideal when you just want to quickly jot down notes without worrying about folder naming conventions.

Folder Detection Methods

NoteDrop can identify project folders in three ways:

Numeric Prefix (Default)

Folders must start with digits to be recognized as project folders. This is the traditional legal matter numbering approach.

Any Parseable

Any folder matching your industry's naming pattern is recognized. Works with alphanumeric IDs like patient numbers or property codes.

Manual Only

Don't auto-detect project folders. Use the selected folder directly without traversing the hierarchy.

Save Location

Configure where notes are saved within project folders:

Search Subfolders

NoteDrop looks for specific subfolders within your project folder. You can specify multiple names (comma-separated), and the first match is used.

Correspondence, Notes, File Notes

Save to Root

Save notes directly to the project folder without searching for subfolders.

Changing Your Profile

  1. Open Settings

    Click the NoteDrop menu bar icon → Settings, or press ⌘,

  2. Go to Industry tab

    Select the Industry tab at the top of the Settings window.

  3. Select your profile

    Choose from the dropdown. Changes take effect immediately.

  4. Customize detection (optional)

    Adjust folder detection method and subfolder names as needed.

Preview: The Settings window shows live previews of how your PDF labels and folder parsing will appear.
