Folder Structure
NoteDrop works best with a consistent folder structure.
Recommended Setup
Organize your projects with this structure:
Projects/ ├── 013456 SMITH John – Estate of/ │ ├── Correspondence/ ← Notes save here │ ├── Documents/ │ └── Assets/ ├── PAT-2024-001 – DOE Jane/ │ ├── Notes/ │ └── Records/ └── ...
Folder Naming
NoteDrop parses folder names to extract project information. The expected format depends on your industry profile:
Legal
<MatterNumber> <ClientName> – <MatterType> Example: 013456 SMITH John – Estate of
Medical
<PatientID> – <PatientName> Example: PAT-2024-001 – DOE Jane
Real Estate
<PropertyID> – <Address> – <Transaction> Example: 2024-0123 – 123 Main St – Purchase
Tip: Use an en dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-) for best results. Both work, but en dash is preferred.
Subfolder Detection
NoteDrop looks for specific subfolders to save notes. Configure these in Settings → Industry:
- Legal: Correspondence
- Medical: Notes
- Real Estate: Correspondence, Notes
- Accounting: Correspondence, File Notes
You can specify multiple subfolder names (comma-separated). The first matching folder is used.
Saving to Root
If you prefer notes in the project root folder (not a subfolder), change the Save Location setting to "Save to Root" in Settings → Industry.
